Boy Scouts of America Fundraiser
The 3rd Annual Bob Aamodt, Inc. Vertical Challenge benefits youth of the Trapper Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Individuals or four-person ski and snowboard teams compete for accumulating the most vertical feet in six hours. Endurance is key, although there’s some skill involved as well.
Individuals ski for $150 and teams of four for $600. Visit the Registration page for details and to sign-up.
At the end of the day prizes are awarded for the most vertical feet, most money raised and most impressive corporate pride — teams outfitted in uniforms or costumes.
Net proceeds are donated to the Boy Scouts of America Trapper Trails Council.
World Record Attempt
This year, for the 3rd Annual Bob Aamodt, Inc. Vertical Challenge at Snowbasin Ski Resort (home of the 2002 Winter Olympics downhill competition), we’re upping the ante!
We have applied to set a world record in three categories — 1) individual, 2) team of four, and 3) group — to downhill ski and snowboard as many vertical feet as possible in the six hours allotted for the event. Even recreational skiers’ participation will help the group world record attempt.
The Vertical Challenge will use a custom stamp or punch each time a participant gets on a ski lift.
Since each lift is pre-measured for vertical feet from the bottom of the lift to the top, participants are credited with that measurement.
For example, the Wildcat Triple Lift at Snowbasin has a vertical measurement of 1,290 feet.
At the end of the day, each participant turns in their cards and the results are tallied on-site by a local certified public accountant firm.
In 2009 the four-person winning team had accumulated more than 135,000 vertical feet in three hours.
